Demographic and household data from the ACS for the 60 and older population, by sex and selected age groups, for the U.S., States, and District of Columbia. Tabulations are produced from the 1-Year Public Use 5% Microdata Sample(PUMS) file.
The population estimates data are released each year by the Census Bureau. The Census Bureau’s Population Estimates Program (PEP) produces estimates of the population for the United States and Puerto Rico. These estimates are used in federal funding allocations, as survey controls, as denominators for vital rates and per capita time series, and as indicators of recent demographic changes. As with the total U.S. and Puerto Rico, similar estimates are downloaded from the Census Bureau’s Inter-national Database for U.S territories and included in AGID. Race and ethnicity data are not available for U.S. territories.
The National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants (NSOAAP) is a nationwide survey funded by Title III of the Older Americans Act (OAA) to assess the effectiveness of the Title III programs, maintain accountability, and demonstrate the program’s success in achieving legislative goals. NSOAAP is comprised of six annual surveys of select Title III service areas (home-delivered meals, congregate meals, homemaker services, transportation services, case management services, and caregiver support services). The survey instruments focus on the consumers’ assessment of service quality and outcomes. The instruments also measure client characteristics such as demographics, health status, and physical and social functioning.
Please send an email to Evaluation@ACL.HHS.gov if you would like to learn more about NSOAAP data.
Note: NSOAAP was not conducted in 2020 due to COVID-19. NSOAAP data will be posted at a later date.

American Community Survey (ACS) Special Tabulations
The five year American Community Survey (ACS) Special Tabulation on Aging is based on the Census Bureau's ACS data. Detailed tables for each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian areas (AIANNH) are included. Geographic levels of aggregation include state, county, ACL's planning and service areas (PSAs), tribal areas, census tracts, and ZIP Code tabulation areas. Some geographic units are not shown due to too few cases, and many tables have two versions in order to provide an alternative which minimizes the loss of data due to disclosure protection. The results may be used for many purposes including serving as a component in the allocation formulas for Older Americans Act funding and for planning programs and services for the aging.
